South-East will back South-West for PDP chair, says Wabara

A former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, has said the South-East delegates to the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party national convention will  back the South-West to produce the next

Wabara, who spoke in Ibadan on Sunday, said that the South-West deserved the slot but added that the South-East would need the support of the South-West in producing the  PDP presidential candidate.

The former Senate President said that he was optimistic that the party would win the presidential election in 2019.

Wabara said, “I have no doubt that we are going to grab power from the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State but I cannot begin to tell you the strategies in place for our party. As an Igboman, we wish to produce the president of Nigeria after the North, so we are going to sacrifice the chairmanship of the party for the South-West. We will support the South-West so as for them to support us when the time comes.

“The South-East is not in the race for national chairmanship of the party. We are now humble so that we can achieve our goals soon.”

Wabara also received petitions from members of the party who were aggrieved after the ward congresses of the PDP on Saturday.

According to him, the PDP had learnt from the mistake it made by choosing the right candidates for the chairmanship position and other elective positions in the last elections, adding that the party was being careful when dealing with internal issues that were capable of destabilising the ongoing reconciliation efforts of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee.
