The Vice-President Namadi Sambo-led transition committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure a smooth handover to President-elect Muhammadu Buhari on May 29 has started sitting in Abuja.
Sambo presided over the meeting on Monday.
Senator Pius Anyim, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who fielded questions from State House journalists after the meeting, said the committee discussed its terms of reference, among other issues.
“We met to discuss the terms of reference and develop the guidelines for preparing the handover briefs and the committee adjourned to April 20 for its second meeting,” Anyim said.
The committee would first collect briefs from all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, collate the data and then proceed to interface with the President-elect’s transition committee.
Anyim added that the interface would give the committee the opportunity to offer clarifications and answer questions that would be raised by Buhari’s committee.
He explained further, “Ours is to collect our own handover briefs, prepare the briefs and prepare the President’s handover notes. The terms of reference of our own committee is to collate the relevant information for the handover briefs from all the MDAs, prepare them and interface with the incoming administration’s transition committee.”
